THE LEGEND OF THE WHITE MOUSE, THE NANCY WAKE STORY. A TRULY REMARKABLE SPY.
SPEAKER: Paul Barwick
Australian journalist Nancy Wake had it all. Intelligent, beautiful, and married to a wealthy French industrialist, living in grand style in the South of France. But in June 1940 when the Nazi war machine rolled into France, Nancy knew she had to fight back.
Her pre-war assignments as a European correspondent bore witness to the rise of the Nazi party and she was determined to do all she could to fight the brutality of Hitler’s regime.
Our talk describes the part she played, running escape routes, assisting the resistance, and being a general menace to the Gestapo, who nicknamed her ‘The White Mouse’. We look at her amazing life and how she found the peace much harder to win.
