The Theatre Group was founded in March 2011, with a view to arranging trips to theatres within reasonable reach of Bath. We aim to make our trips at approximately quarterly intervals and to cater for varying interests by offering productions covering ballets/operas, plays and musical performances.

Our trips will be to matinee performances, travelling by coach from Bath in the mornings before attending the matinees, and returning to Bath straight after the performance. We will arrive at our destinations with sufficient time to allow for lunches for which people will make their own arrangements.

Our first visit this year is on 20 April 2011 to the Octagon Theatre in Yeovil to see a mixed dance performance from the Birmingham Royal Ballet Company.

21 July 2011 Watermill Theatre Newbury: The Marriage of Figaro play by Beaumarchis. Beaumarchis’play, the inspiration for Mozart’s opera and considered scandalous in pre-revolution France, is a comic masterpiece.

8 Sept 2011 Stratford RSC Midsummer Nights Dream. Directed by Nancy Meckler

We will also be arranging a trip for Nov/Dec once we have details of what productions are available during those months.

Prices will vary according to the ticket and transport costs, and reservations can be made for each production only after the event is advertised in the U3A newsletter.
