LISTENING TO MUSIC
WHEN:
10.00 am - Second and fourth Friday of the month
WHERE:
BRSLI (Lonsdale Room), Queen Square

This is an established group with some 20+ members and there may be space for new members next term. We meet from 10:00am to approx 12:00 noon on the 2nd and 4th Friday morning of each month in term time which means up to seven sessions per term. We began meeting in person in 2019 in a hired room, migrated to Zoom during lockdowns but have now started meeting in person again.

The format is flexible but usually a talk, illustrated with slides and recorded musical excerpts, a short coffee break and questions/discussion. The music is classical – for example during the autumn term 2021 we have had presentations on the French Horn, the Aldeburgh Festival, Franz Liszt and Martin Shaw songs. To come this term are Carl Nielson, Stravinsky and Indian Classical Music. Spring term 2022 we are planning to have two sessions on Britten’s opera, Peter Grimes, and one each on English Choral Music, Erich Korngold and female composers. There is one session yet to fill.

The talks are given by group members who include several professional musicians, music teachers, amateur players and singers, or simply those with a particular interest. There is no obligation to deliver a talk.
