The group analyses novels from the mid-Victorian period, such as the works of Elizabeth Gaskell, Charlotte Brönte and Anthony Trollope, through to those of twentieth century writers such as E.M.Forster, D.H.Lawrence and Evelyn Waugh.

Members of the group are asked from time to time to prepare particular themes or to talk about plot development, characters and historical context.
