The book club meets at 2.30 in members’ homes on the third Thursday of each month.
The member who is hosting introduces a book which may be a recently published novel, a classic, one we would like to revisit or occasionally a selection of poetry.
We have read several biographies. This year, for example, we have read 'Hamnet' by Maggie O’Farrell, 'The Country Girls' by Edna O’Brien and 'Where the Crawdads Sing' by Delia Owens.
After the group have given their general responses to a book, we try to move in and consider matters such as plot, theme, characterisation, structure and the style of writing.
We finish with tea, coffee and biscuits.
